Some have, Some have not

When I was in Isfahan, Iran, way back in 2001 I saw this majestic, old mosque. There were two identical, tall pillars well-adorned, on either side of the entrance. But the strange thing was, there was no design at the base of one of the pillars, meaning they were not really the same. So I asked the tourist guide why so. He told me the Iranians firm belief that "Only God is Perfect". Thus in all their architecture, they applied this principle. Somewhere along the line, there must be some incomplete element because "Only God is Perfect". How very true ...

Even in our Malay sayings we hear "Among a bunch of bananas, there is one that is different". No two persons are the same. One may have more than the other, one may be good in one field but not in the other. Take me and my late, elder sister (Along) for example. People say I am very good in Needlework and Crafts, after my parents' foot-steps they say. Yes, I can sew, do patch-work, quilting, knitting (knitted 3 cardigans when studying overseas), tatting, macrame also pottery, painting, drawing and the like. But for the life of me, I CAN'T CROTCHET!

On the other hand, Along, was THE Master in the crotchet world. Bless her! I don't know how she did it. You would see her sitting on the day-bed before the TV, click, click, click, click, her right hand nimbly holding the crotchet needle, while strands of Coats cotton thread twisted round her left fingers. She would crotchet table cloths, table runners, the TV covers and even bed spreads. Her many friends would commission her because her work was extra fine. Once I did ask her to teach me. O.K. we started with the basic daisy stitch, the usual straight line. That was fine. When she twisted here and there to form the design, that was when I gave up! My fingers were all thumbs! I CAN'T CROTCHET!

So you see, you cannot be perfect all the time. Allah distributes His gifts among us. Some have this, some have that. Be thankful for what you have and never look down on others. Remember - "Only God is Perfect".

Al-Fatihah for my Along.

How very true. I do believe in having imperfect anything! From my cakes to my other inanimate stuff. But a lot of people don't quite understand this concept when they see a tiny chip on the sugar flower, or a hairline crack on the fondant drape. I don't intentionally did all that but I would not make a fuss if it happened, or go all the trouble doing it again. In this business everything has to be immaculate. Thanks for the peek at my work. I appreciate your sweet comment as each tray of those muffette cupcakes tu, takes hours and hours of decorating.

Hope to see you again.
