"BELLA" - ROMAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

I mentioned about our trip to the country-side earlier. At about lunch time, we stopped at this our first archaeological site at "Pella" (the Arabs called it "Bella" because there is no 'P' letter in Arabic. Thus 'Pakistan' becomes 'Bakistan', 'Paris' becomes 'Baris'. If your name is 'Peter', it becomes 'Beter' and so on).

Anyway I was excited to see the ruins, i.e. what's left of the Roman temples, occupying part of this hidden valley. I wonder why they built it in this secluded place. There might be a stream flowing at the base, I could see some lush vegetation there. However, I did not realise I would be seeing a lot more of the Roman ruins in days to come especially the famous one at Jeraish. I'll write about that later.
Can you read the above sign-board about the place. It has all the information about Pella.

Well, we had a sumptious lunch under the cool shades of the trees in the valley, thanks to our hosts. See slides below.

Some Spanish words are derived from Arabic because of Spain's long Arabic occupation. I wonder if the Spanish adjective "bella"(f.) which means "beautiful" is of Arabic origin, given your reference to Bella.

Yes, perhaps. Also like 'coffee', 'algebra', 'alcatraz' derive from Arabic.

Thanks for the visit, Louis.
