RUMAH TERBUKA

We are still celebrating the Eid Festival as long as it is the month of Syawal. Everywhere people are enjoying Rumah Terbuka or "Open House"(Rumah = house, Terbuka = lit. open without intention). Friends and colleagues AND acquiantances arrive, invited or not to join in the festivities with lots of food and drinks. I don't remember when actually this practice started.

(Hey, excuse me! As I write this, I can feel a slight tremour. Why - my chair is shaking! What's happening? Is it my imagination?)

To continue my story about the Open House. Throughout the month of Syawal, the Muslim house is always opened to guests. In this modern time, to save a lot of work for the house owner, a special day and time is selected so that everyone could be entertained simultaneously. But if they come at other times, they are welcomed too.

So it was one day at Tati's house, she and Sol organised Open House for relatives, friends and colleagues and their families. Tati had her hands full welcoming her guests right up until late at night. Everyone was happy - just look at the collage below.

(CONFIRM! I was not imagining. Sol just returned from work, saying a slight tremour was felt in town just now. He could see the building swaying slightly and everybody rushed out, afraid. Oh my, this is the first time I really felt it - imagine in Melaka, right next to the Bukit China Hill!)
