Early this morning when I went for my usual Sunday morning walk by the water-front, I was greeted by this huge, fire-eating dragon about to swallow the Flore-de-la-Mare ship in front of it. Then I realised that Chinese New Year is just round the corner. The Melaka government in an attempt to attract tourists, has employed skilled craftsmen from China to erect huge lantern-like monuments depicting fairy-land characters and famous land-marks of this historic city. Flower-like lanterns were also placed all along the promenade of the Melaka River. Hmmm. . . at a cost of RM 1.5 million?
They looked 'cute' and fanciful, ought to look colourful once it's all lighted up.
Not forgetting the popular Melaka trishaw, the Clock Tower, the minaret and also the elephant! The whole project will be officially launched and lighted by the Chief Minister come the eve of the Chinese New Year. I'll snap some more pictures then. What say you, folks? Hmmm . .

Looking forward to your pictures.
Malacca seems to observe its heritage with very creative displays, such as this one.
The results of your workshop as illustrated in your photos are great!
Thank you, Louis.
We in Melaka city can't keep up with the fast make-over being done. I hope it wouldn't suddenly turn into a big, ugly giant!
Yes, the workshop - I was surprised too!
