It was 11.00 pm. Boom, boom, boom!!! What's that? I drew the window curtains in my bedroom and saw above the trees, high above in the black sky, Fireworks! Ah yes . . . They, the Heritage City of Melaka that is, were celebrating the first anniversary being coined 'Heritage City of the World'. A grand cultural night was being staged downtown whereby spectators were encouraged to come dressed in traditional costumes. Unfortunately I couldn't go to be a part of the spectacle - this granny is scared to go alone ;) and at night too!
Well anyway, I want to share here with you the fact that despite the Save-Energy-Campaign, some parts of Melaka town are bedecked with lights at all times. One warm night, the family went to get some breeze at the open square opposite the Municipal Building. There were many other families there too, children running all over the place, the elders sitting round the large pond, all relaxing and enjoying the scene around. The place was well-lighted, trees adorned with white lights, blue lights - just like the huge Christmas tree at Rockefeller Centre in New York City. No joke! Just look at the pictures below.

All dressed for the party!
She's ready too . . .
This group in a dramatic pose.
She looks ghostly . . .
The fountain. A safety warden walked around the pond warning little children not to play in the water, they might get electrocuted. Why put light bulbs in the water then?
Even the roofs are dressed with lights.
And here's the Municipal Building - reminds me of Disney Land.Cheers to Melaka, the Heritage City of the World.
HAPPY BITHRDAY TO YOU!
