FIRST TIME EVER!

This morning Siti Har gave me several durians from her orchard. I wanted to take out the delicious contents from the thick, thorny casing so that I could refrigerate them and have them later on upon breaking fast this evening. However, there was no help around! I've always had my durians cracked open for me, be it from a member of the family or if I bought it from the night market, the thick skin would be cracked open by the seller and I have the contents placed in a plastic container.

Now today, there was no one around to help me. I decided there's always a first time for everything and I had to have a go. So I got the chopper and the rag to protect my fingers. And for the first time in my 60 years or so I attacked the thorny fruit. First chop - ouch, it was way out from target. You see, the fruit has several compartments and you have to make incisions at the edges of the compartments at the bottom of the fruit. Three, four chop, chop I almost gave up. The palms of my hands were already sore what with the chopper and the thorns. Some more chop-chop, aha . . I could see some cracks. Then with my bare hands, using all my energy, I pulled the compartments asunder. Wow, success at last! Yes, it was a tremendous achievement on my part and I just had to put it on record. My first ever cracking of the durian. I DID IT! Get the camera! Must record this! Congratulations to me!

Now, where's the said compartment!

See the lovely, yellow fruit well-packed in its compartment? God is great!

And after several chop-chops ... Success at last

Moral of the story : You can do anything if you set your mind and heart to it.

Congratulation. The next time just go to the Supermarket and get it there already ready to eat. And enjoy.

BTW Durian should be eaten in the fruit and not in a container like you did. It somehow did not taste right.

Have a nice day.

Hi Pak Idrus,

Really ah? Taste durian also to me from whatever you take it from. Psychological maybe.

Thanks for the visit. You too have a nice day!

Hi Naz (senama, hee3),

Voila! The one and the same Kak N from 'Cumi and Ciki' days. That was yearrrrrrs ago, my dear and I'm sure my biggest fan now dah besar panjang. If you scroll down my older posts, I did write about that experience on TV. I also posted several children's drawings sent to me then. Maybe one is yours? I'm dying to return the drawings to the now grown owner, just for laughs :-)

Thank you for remembering Kak N. And do visit again, ya!

Kak N!!!!!
I have been trying to trace you down for months as I thought of doing a piece on the Cumi n Ciki days in my blog.
One of the main reason I fell for you (!) was because of your name. Tak ramai girls were called that. So I felt I had a *partner in crime* in you..hehe!
I will read that piece today after work.
Drop by at my blog too whenever you have the time.
Take care!
